The California Society of Anesthesiologists denounces racism, both individual racist actions and systemic racism. The death of George Floyd has caused great pain for communities around the world as well as members of our society.  This and other recent acts have magnified pervasive social problems related to racism.

As physicians, we recognize that racism is a public health crisis that affects the health of our patients.  As anesthesiologists, we have a unique perspective as we care for patients across the entire spectrum of medicine. Each patient is someone's child, someone's friend, often someone's spouse, parent, or grandparent. Racism in all of its forms threatens the health and well-being of society and undermines our shared humanity.

The leadership and membership of CSA commit to supporting our entire professional family to create spaces filled with empathy, encouragement, and equity for our peers, their families and the patients and communities we serve.

    • We as an organization strive to meet our members where they are.
    • We will provide a forum for members to share stories where their personal and professional lives have been impacted by racism, bigotry, or hatred.
    • We will provide a platform for implicit bias training and give our members the tools to eliminate such bias and act to end racism.
