In 2017, CSA started having poster presentations at their Annual Meeting. In that first year, we had 17 posters while this year we had 44. With 193 delegates, this group constitutes a large percent of attendees. The posters were from California resident programs, a few out of state, and from India. New this year was a private sector anesthesiologist Alicja Orkiszeewski who contributed a paper entitled: “Challenges in teaching anesthesiology for non-anesthesia residents”.

Of the 44 abstracts, 14 were given the opportunity to give an 8 minutes presentation.

Based on two days of abstracts, we had two days of awards. Awards are 1st place –  complimentary registration to the 2019 Annual Meeting, 2nd place – half off registration, and 3rd place – 25 percent off.

Friday winners:

Francesca Betti, MD – Resident, Stanford University

“Can non-invasive peripheral temperature stickers reflect core temperature during            anesthesia?”

2.  Shambhavi Chuhan, MD – Faculty, M.L.B. Medical College, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, India

      “Sedation for awake fiberoptic intubation”

3. Tiffany Sun Moon, MD – Resident, UT Southwestern

“Apneic Oxygenation with a Nasal Cannula in the Morbidly Obese Patient”

Saturday winners:

1. Eugenia Ayrian, MD – Faculty, USC

“Reduction in ICU and hospital stay following spine surgery”

2. Andrea Olmas – Resident, University of San Francisco

“Single-use Air-assisted Lateral Transfer Devices: Are they being put to good use and can we improve upon sustainable practice?”

3. Pandora Chua – Resident, Stanford University

“An anesthetic attempt to be “green": How do you waste your CO2 absorbers?”

Since many of the topics are of real interest to anesthesiologists, we have decided that most of the abstracts will be posted as a CSA blog in the coming weeks.

Again, congratulations to all the winners and thank you for making the poster session educational and fun. We look forward to seeing many more next year.
