Christina-Menor-MD-FASAThe ASA-Global Humanitarian Outreach (GHO) committee is an active and dynamic committee with the mission of enhancing, supporting, educating, representing and collaborating for safe anesthesia practice worldwide. In working towards this mission the committee has developed and sponsors the Resident International Scholarship Program that sends CA-3 Anesthesiology residents to a low-resource country for a month. The aim of the program is to engage the residents into the clinical and academic anesthesia programs to more fully understand the realities of anesthesia care around the world. The site for the rotation will be a CURE Hospital OR a GHO-affiliated site. Residents will be able to experience the challenges of delivering safe anesthesia in a low-resource/low-income, underserved area in a developing country. Additionally, residents get the opportunity to participate in the training and education of local anesthesia providers. With appropriate planning, the resident will be eligible to receive ABA credit for this rotation. Covered expenses include travel, lodging, meals, visa, vaccinations and medical insurance.
