As your President for the 2021-22 program year, I am pleased to report the outcomes of a productive CSA Board of Directors meeting held September 10-11 at the Hilton Oakland Airport Hotel.
During these past 18 months of COVID, CSA leaders have stayed in touch and conducted the business of the society remotely, and most times quite effectively, via Zoom. With appropriate COVID precautions (vaccination plus recent testing), we were able to meet safely in person, face-to-face (or at least mask-to-mask) once again. This was a joyous and rewarding experience. As anesthesiologists who treat and advise our patients, we know that nothing can replace the immediate response and confirmation we receive when we interact personally with others. I believe the productive outcomes from the board meeting were due in large part to our ability to communicate and interact with one another – both formally during the meeting agenda and informally during breaks and meals. As a result, we were able to resolve a large number of critical issues in the short time available.
