CSA leaders have been fielding inquiries today from members expressing concern that patients’ access to abortion may be restricted in California in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v Wade.

In a 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court determined there is no federal right to abortion found in the Constitution.  The ruling remands the issue back to the individual states whose legislatures can choose to regulate access to abortion or not.

In California, policymakers have been clear that access to abortion procedures will not be restricted in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision and have included additional funds in the recent state budget for patients from other states who seek to have an abortion but whose states have prohibited or restricted them.
