The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) has bestowed Dr. Antonio Hernandez Conte with the “Bertram W. Coffer MD Excellence in Government Award.” This national distinction is given annually to a physician who demonstrates exemplary contributions to the medical specialty of anesthesiology, its practitioners and patients. Dr. Hernandez Conte has been a leader in galvanizing and empowering physicians across California in ensuring access to safe anesthesia care, promoting solutions to the anesthesia workforce shortage and ensuring that economic reform is addressed within the Medicare and MediCal systems. Dr. Hernandez Conte has demonstrated the courage to tackle complex problems and present solutions to key state and national legislators, as well as major stakeholder groups. Dr. Hernandez Conte is currently the Immediate Past-President of the California Society of Anesthesiologists (CSA) and serves on numerous committees within the CSA and the ASA. He is also the Vice-Chair of the ASA Committee on Practice Management and the Chair of the ASA Ad Hoc LGBTQ+ Committee. Dr. Hernandez Conte is a Cardiac Anesthesiologist at the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center and is a Partner with the Southern California Permanente Medical Group.
