Why this matters:
National reports have shown that anesthesiologists experience some of the highest rates of gender-based harassment in academic medicine — along with elevated burnout and intent to leave their current job.
What we’re doing about it:
CSA leadership — together with the Committee on Women Anesthesiologists, the Practice Management Committee, and JEDI — has launched the CSA Harassment and Practice Management Survey to understand:
- The scope of gender- and race-based harassment in California
- How workload and scheduling affect work-life balance
- Barriers to reporting and concerns about retaliation
- The real impact on burnout, career satisfaction, and retention
What the survey covers:
- Demographics and practice setting
- Workload, scheduling challenges, and desired changes
- Witnessed and experienced gender-based harassment
- Witnessed and experienced racial harassment
- Reporting climate and retaliation concerns
- Impact on burnout, depression, and intent to leave
The goal:
Data → Action. We cannot address what we do not measure.
Your participation helps CSA:
- Advocate effectively
- Develop targeted resources
- Improve workplace culture
- Support retention and well-being
The bottom line:
If you’ve experienced it, witnessed it, or care about creating a better practice environment — your input is critical.
