Spring is here — and so is momentum.
As we enter this season of new beginnings, I find myself reflecting on how much is in motion — for our specialty, our organization, and our world.
Anesthesiology: still one of the most competitive specialties in medicine.
This year’s Match results are in, and they reflect the strength and appeal of our field. Anesthesiology residency programs remain among the most sought-after in medicine, with outstanding candidates choosing our specialty. To our newest colleagues entering training:
Welcome. You chose wisely.
What we built at the Board Retreat.
In February, our Board of Directors gathered for a two-day governance retreat at the Westin LAX. We came focused, honest, and strategic. High points:
Reaffirmed CSA’s vision, mission, and six Key Result Areas
Approved new committee leadership — and two landmark initiatives: the Pearl-Applegate Medical Student Award and a Legislative Contact Tracking App
Committed to stronger governance: clearer board roles, formal mentorship, and a communications refresh
Set the path toward making CSA the go-to resource for California anesthesiologists
| This wasn’t about adding more. It was about governing better. |
Elections are open — and we want you.
Nominations for CSA Delegate and Director positions are now open — with a nomination deadline of April 17, 2026. These are real leadership roles with real impact — on advocacy in Sacramento, on the national ASA stage, and on the future of physician-led anesthesia care in California. Details are in this issue.
If you’ve ever thought about stepping into leadership, now is your time. Reach out. I’d love to talk.
🌍 A personal note.
The world feels heavy right now. Many of us are carrying uncertainty — about the healthcare landscape, about our institutions, about things far beyond our specialty.
But this week, much of the world paused to mark new beginnings.
🌙 Eid Mubarak — to our colleagues and families celebrating the end of Ramadan. May this season bring peace, joy, and togetherness.
🌺 Nowruz Mubarak — a Persian New Year, a celebration of renewal and light over darkness, hope over fear.
And to everyone: spring has arrived. The days are longer. Things grow again.
I believe deeply in the resilience of this community. Whatever is hard right now, we face it together — as physicians, as leaders, as people who have chosen a field that asks us to show up fully for others, often on the hardest days of their lives.
That is who we are. And I am proud to serve alongside every one of you.
With gratitude and optimism,
Dr. Christina Menor, MD, MS, FASA
President, California Society of Anesthesiologists
